No, I'm not throwing an actual strawberry shortcake in a blender. | SPG 31 Days of Smoothies
True story: When I was a kid, I wanted to be Strawberry Shortcake. I had all the dolls. She even came strawberry-scented! Plus, she had that super cute pink cat with white polka dots. I already loved cats, but that was just an added bonus. The cat was even strawberry- scented!!
I still regard Strawberry Shortcake cereal as one of the most delicious cereals of all time. My birthday cake every year for a good stretch of time was always strawberry, from a box, with cream cheese frosting. Mmmmm.
Alas, I never became Strawberry Shortcake, but that doesn't mean I still can't enjoy the flavors of an actual strawberry shortcake in smoothie form. This one is modeled after the one we all know and love: strawberries in their whole form. Whipped cream. Biscuits.
But not any of those, actually. Because that would make for a very strange smoothie. What I'm after here is flavor, people.
Strawberry Shortcake Smoothie:
1 cup milk of choice
1 serving neutral-colored protein powder of choice (so it doesn't mess with the color of the strawberries), OR 2 tablespoons hemp seeds OR 2 tablespoons chia seeds
1 cup fresh or frozen strawberries
2 tablespoons oats
1 tablespoon Greek-style yogurt
1-2 pitted Medjool dates (or 2-4 Deglet dates): Sweetness level is up to you!
Tiny pinch of salt
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon (OPTIONAL)
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract (OPTIONAL)
Make the thing:
Combine it in a blender.
Blend it.
Look at that color! Even the speckles of strawberry in the empty glass <3.
And techically I fibbed. I WAS Strawberry Shortcake, for at least a few hours.
Thanks Halloween! Thanks, parents who understood my obsessions with cartoon characters!
