Fly, Eagles Fly. E-A-G-L-E-S-EAGLESSSS! | SPG 31 Days of Smoothies
*UPDATE*: This was written as The Birds were starting their playoff journey. Clearly, we all know how it turned out. I'm not saying this smoothie helped, BUT...GO BIRDS!!!
I love American Football. I enjoy Football as well (which Americans refer to as Soccer), but I really, really love American Football. I'm not a trash talker, because I think every team gets their due. And being a kinesiology geek, I am fascinated by the athletic feats a human body is capable of.
Also, the rules. No, really. When I was a kid, I HATED it. Games were on every Sunday and all they represented was a 3-hour boring waste of time.
Then came 'The Big Game' circa 1997. I was sick and I couldn't do anything, so we were watching the Broncos take on...someone, I don't know. All I knew was that John Elway was retiring after the game and I thought it poetic if he won. So I really got into it. And the Broncos won. Not because I got into the game, obvi.
Since then, I just started being fascinated by it. And once I understood the rules, I got even more into it.
And although I will listen to you, and your opinions, and your opinions of your team and of fandom, I will and always will be an Eagles fan. I liked them even when they were bad. I even liked them through the Chip Kelly year(s).
The Chip Kelly year(s). Let that sink in. It happened.
Anyway, they say to be an Eagles fan is to bleed green, which, ew.
I'd prefer to drink green instead.
So I present to you: The 'GO BIRDS!' smoothie in honor of the crew's latest playoff run (of like a million cuz we're so good, of course, DUH and I SWEEEAR if your answer is "then why haven't you made it to the 'bowl super' since 2018..." then...oooh).
Anyway, the smoothie is zesty and a little spicy, just like Philly Sports Fans. I know I'm underestimating the "little spicy" and "Philly Sports Fan" part, but cut me some slack. This is a family blog.
GO BIRDS! Green Smoothie
1 1/4 cups plain, sparkling, or coconut water
1/2 cup fresh or frozen spinach
1/2 cup frozen pineapple chunks
1/4 of an English (seedless) cucumber
1-2 pitted Medjool dates or 2-4 Deglet Dates (depends on how sweet you feel at gametime)
1 tablespoon chia seeds
A twist of fresh lime, if you please
1/8 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper (if you dare. Leave it out if not, or add more if you DO dare).
Make It:
Blend all the things until smooth and not gritty (cuz Gritty is not the Eagles mascot).
If you're going to have an Eagles Green Smoothie, it should be in a pint glass. Even this Eagle is psyched to drink it. GO BIRDS!
