Blueberry Basil Smoothie: January 11th.

I cannot be more emphatic about how much I love this smoothie. I have been making it for years and years.

You see, back in the day, circa 2015-2016, I was living in the desert and the constant sunshine and outdoor activity really started to transform my picture of whole health. I didn't love smoothies back then, but the ability to just wander to my local smoothie shop or pick up a fresh juice from basically anywhere was appealing to me.

And expensive. Also expensive.

So I started to tinker with ingredients I liked and really started to come up with my own blends, which is how this smoothie was born. At one point, I happened to have blueberries and basil in my fridge and freezer. The end.

One thing I learned was that, no matter where you are located, your internal clock still knows it's winter. So if you're in all-day every-day sunshine but still feel a little "meh", try this smoothie on for size. It'll pick you right up for at least a little while!


Blueberry Basil Smoothie

  • 1 cup milk of choice

  • 1 serving protein powder of choice

  • 1/2 cup fresh or frozen blueberries

  • 1-2 pitted Medjool dates (or 2-4 Deglet dates): sweetness is up to you!

  • 3-4 leaves fresh basil, torn

  • Tiny pinch of salt

  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract (OPTIONAL)

  • 1 teaspoon chia seeds (OPTIONAL)


Make it:

  • Combine all ingredients in a blender. Blend until smooth.

  • Top with chia seeds, if using.

  • Do cartwheels.


I hope you enjoy this many times over and it becomes a favorite in your smoothie canon, too!
